Introduction and background
Songs and music play an important role in the development of young children's learning both in the acquisition of their native language, as well as additional ones. As children, we can imitate the rhythm and musical structure of our mother tongue long before we can say the words (Helendoron 2013).
Songs can help young learners improve their listening skills and pronunciation, therefore potentially helping them to improve their speaking skills. Songs can also be useful tools in the learning of vocabulary, sentence structures, and sentence patterns, not to mention their reflectivity of mother tongue culture (Murphey, 1992).
However, Helen Doron tells that “For language learning, music is extremely important. We pick up the intonation, the syntax, the rhyme, pre-reading abilities, everything through music.
