En kort redegørelse for en kommunikativ tilgang til engelskundervisningen set i lyset af, at danske børn nu starter engelskundervisningen i 3. klasse. Derudover en introduktion til to nye undervisningsmaterialer, der henvender sig til undervisningen i 3. klasse.

Introduction
The Ministry of Education in Denmark has decided that Danish children are to learn English from the 3rd grade starting august 2004. We would like to have a look at the aims and goals of teaching beginners in the Danish schools. We would also like to examine a specific method of teaching and how it can contribute to our future classes, which means that we are going to have a look at different communicative strategies, and how they differ from other techniques of teaching.

Why the Communicative Approach?
Will this particular method be able to accommodate the teaching of beginners in English? Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) has been developed since the 70s, and is used widely in today's different course book systems. However, the problem with this strategy is that it emphasises, that English should be the classroom language. Is it then possible to teach beginners in a communicative way?
